Stud Linebacker Phillip Mills Signs with Boise State

The first official pledge of the 2018 recruiting cycle signed with the Boise State Football Program bright and early on Wednesday morning when the Boise State Football Twitter account announced that California, Linebacker Phillip Mills had officially come on board.

Mills and I spoke in the summer of 2016 after he was offered and again found some time to a catch up after his commitment.

“What put Boise over the top was the family atmosphere,” Mills said at the time, “and the feeling of being wanted there, as well as how much my family enjoyed it.”

Mills was also offered by the likes of Washington State, San Diego State, New Mexico, Wyoming, Hawai’i, Air Force & Army.

During our conversation Mills said he wasn’t sure when he’d commit but was sure he’d know when he was ready to make the best decision for his future and he was ready to commit when he did.

“I knew now was the time because all along they were my number one in my head, and after visiting, my family expressed that they loved Boise just as much as I did.”

He also added that he feels like he will fit in “very well” with Harsin and Defensive Coordinator Andy Avalos, “they are amazing coaches and I think anyone would enjoy playing under them.”

One of the newest-Broncos played on a travel 7v7 team that participates in the Summer Olympics and earned a Bronze medal this year.

Mills has very-little experiences in “The City of Trees” but he’s ready to spend the next several years of this life in the Treasure Valley. “I loved it there, the atmosphere was great.”

“Being a Bronco to me means everything, I can’t wait ’til it’s official!”

It’s now official.

Mills said his family, friends, and coaches have all contributed to helping him get to this point of his football career. “(They’ve all) been very supportive.”

How does the newest Boise State commit feel about defending the Triple Option?

“I’m confident in defending any offense because I know Avalos is gonna get us prepared every week.”
